Martin Paev, Chairman of SORTIS Group, Spoke at the New Developments & Restructuring CSEE Forum 2019 in Bucharest (Romania)

Mr. Martin Paev, CFA, Chairman of SORTIS Group (Bulgaria), took part in the New Developments & Restructuring CSEE Forum 2019 on the 7th of November 2019 at Athenee Palace Hilton in Bucharest, Romania.

This year at the forum, senior NPL experts from the region, including Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, and Turkey, discussed the drastic decrease in the Romanian NPL ratios starting from 24% at its peak falling down to below 5%. This decrease caused neighborhood countries who are managing their NPL situations to make a note and learn from Romania’s mistakes by looking at their key benchmarks set. Guests at the forum were leading debt purchasing, debt servicing and private equity firms, along with banks, high caliber investors, advisors, and asset managers.

At the forum, Mr. Paev was a moderator on the panel Developments & Outlook – Emerging Markets in the Region, where he discussed the recent deals and trends of the Bulgarian NPL market in comparison to other countries in CSEE. He also spoke about the real estate market in Bulgaria and presented statistics showing that construction in Bulgaria is booming and is already approaching the peak levels of 2007-2008. Mr. Paev observed the continuously high yields and the increasing interest from foreign investors towards income-generating properties in Bulgaria.
