Optix Sells Part of its Assets to Canadian Holding American Optics

The optical equipment manufacturer, Optix Jsc., based in Panagurishte, Bulgaria, transferred a part of its assets to a newly established company, Micro Optix Europe, which was sold to the Canadian holding American Optix at the end of last year. The newly established company has a staff of 160 people and will manufacture micro-optical elements for medical and research uses. Optix would retain the right to approve the management team of the new company, as well as participate in the strategic decision-making process of the Canadian holding.

Optix manufactures the endoscopic optics of the German company Schoelly Fiberoptic, among others, including devices for the innovative Da Vinci surgical robot. The goal for the new company is to enter new markets and increase production capacity.

With the deal, Optix aims to acquire management know-how. 2017 was the most successful in company’s history with sales of more than BGN 80 M (ca. €40 M) with a 2019 goal of BGN 100 M (ca. €50 M). For the last 5 years, Optix’s investments exceeded BGN 20 M (ca. €10 M). In 2018 the company plans to build a new production facility in Bozhurishte industrial zone near Sofia, and a R&D and manufacturing center for electronics in Plovdiv.

American Optics is a global leader in the production of endoscopic optics with sales in over 30 countries.
